character.
CHARACTER NAME: Daenerys Targaryen
SERIES: (a link to their canon information, and it would be extremely helpful if it contained character background/history in it as well.)
CANON POINT: Post Storm of Swords.
AGE: 18 ( going by show age )
APPEARANCE:

The Targaryen dynasty is known for not only their brilliance, madness and legacy -- but for their beauty. A full-blooded Targaryen has the signature white/silver hair and violet eyes. Daenerys' eyes are described as 'lilacs' and she has once been described as 'the most beautiful woman in the world'. While she is of sixteen years she enhances all the fallen beauty of her House, and such looks can be deceiving.

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: None!

PERSONALITY: For all the contenders vying for the Iron Throne, Daenerys is not your typical conqueror. Young, beautiful and inexperienced, Daenerys has lived a hard life and at a young age to bear such sorrows. The entirety of House Targaryen lost, save for her brother and herself both lived their life in hiding against the Usurper, Robert Baratheon for most of their lives. There were few happy moments; the only few 'Dany' can remember being are the ones spent in the house in Braavos with the red door; the kindly old knight who spoke gently to her.

Before meeting Khal Drogo, Daenerys was shy, submissive and downright abused by her older brother Viserys both mentally and physically. Once she weds the Khal for her brother's whims (and threats of what should happen if she doesn't ) she inherits a title not just in name but in action for once in her life. She is given her own power when all her life she has been oppressed by her brother and her lot in life. She becomes a Khaleesi. A queen. Through Daenerys' time spent with Drogo we learn that she is not only eager to learn how to please her husband, but curious, bright and intelligent. She learns to speak their language, she grows close to her handmaidens and shows that while many could cower because she is so young Daenerys shows incredible resilience.

And eventually? Defiance. As she grows stronger in spirit with a positive reception around her, for she is now essentially the wife of a powerful warlord, she begins to resist her brother Viserys, whom she once feared of angering.  As she learns to find her place within the Dothraki heirarchy, Daenerys shows that she is capable of awaking her own dragon. When Viserys threatens to beat her, in the HBO version Daenerys sits up, and threatens her brother instead: "I am the Khaleesi of the Dothraki, wife of the Great Khal whose son is inside me. The next time you touch me is the last time you have hands. " Because as she spends more time with the Dothraki, so too do her eyes open, not just from different perspectives, but because she is slowly maturing. She sees her brother for who he is, and instead of actually having them treat him badly, she intercedes on his behalf, despite all the cruelty he's shown her, she does her best to protect and still please him. Perhaps it's still a part of her old nature, but it also shows that Daenerys is is not uncapable of showing compassion.

Compassion is something that truly sets her apart in terms of a ruler. As she is called 'Mother of Dragons' she does not just become mother of the three dragons she awoke in the flames, but of her people. She calls the Dothraki her own people now, and like a Mother, worries and fears over the choices she makes in leading them as her army towards Westeros. When she rises from the ashes of her husband's funeral pyre she promises them that if they stay she will essentially protect them and that there will be violent retribution for those who would harm her own. Daenerys is particularly compassionate towards slaves. Among the Dothraki before Drogo's death she made sure all the women slaves were taken under her care despite their policy of keeping the spoils of their conquest, even going so far as to say Drogo would punish them if they defied her, while knowing full well he wouldn't approve. That shows kindness and a large amount of unselfishness. When she engages battles with the slave-cities, she sets every single one of the Unsullied free and tells them that they are 'hers' and that they must choose names for themselves and that they are free. And for a minute, she is both young and wise beyond her years as she rides through their masses hearing them shout and call her Mother. After grieving the loss of her husband and son, Rhaego, Daenerys realizes that perhaps she might not have human children, but her own people will be hers to protect, hers to love, hers to nurture. She expresses that she wants her kingdom, when she comes to take it back, to be one where there are prospering people, and laughter and smiles. She does not necessarily want complete bloodshed.

Yet whle Daenerys is very compassionate to the opressed and those in her service, she is also full of the same dragon that Viserys had. Because while he might have inherited Aerys Targaryen's delusional mind, Daenerys has inherited his ruthlessness. She did not free the slaves without a price, she ordered the slaughter of every slaver and killed some personally by having her dragons burn their faces off their skulls. When she goes to Mereen she demands all the slavers killed and put on display and while she questions herself on seeing them rotting out in the sun, she resolutely claims that it was justice. She is described as an 'avenging dragon' when in Mereen because while she is kind, she is full of wrath. Wrath from what was taken from her, because Daenerys Targaryen's eyes are opened, she sees that she is not without power, she has woken dragons, been unburnt by flames, survived and outwitted the slavers and the House of the Undying with both cleverness and  courage. Hers is not only a journey to reclaim what was stolen from her, but to repay it in full with 'fire and blood'. She is both kind and quite cruel when she feels it is for the right reasons. She watches her harsh brother burn before her eyes and realizes for the first time that he is not the true heir to the throne of Westeros and while she misses the brother he was, she does not mourn his passing.

"He was no dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon." - Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys is not kind to those who have wronged her or those she loves. When Mirri Maz Duur's magic takes her son's life and gives a half-life returned to her husband, she responds with vengeance. Setting her lifeless husband on fire she also burns the maegi for what she's done. Because she realizes that no magic in the world can bring back the dead.

Mirri Maz Duur: "You will not hear me scream."
Daenerys: "I will. But it is not your screams that I want, only your life."

Daenerys is not entirely hardened however, though her life has been full of miseries. She has her moments of acting her age, though when she admits it, it's almost as if challenging those who underestimate her to see how capable she is and at such an age. While discussing how to capture the cities she explains to those who are along side her, "Though I am only a young girl." She shows she is capable of being quite the tactician, drawing her armies out in areas and sending scouts in areas elsewhere. In a sense it's done with a sarcastic undertone, because Dany knows in many ways she's the unexpected contender if you look only at her age. Yet when comes matters of the heart, or physical attractions, she still finds herself 'flushing' at images of sexual intercourse on the walls of one of the slave-cities, even though the Dothraki do that quite publically. When Ser Jorah confesses his feelings towards her in a kiss, she is bewildered and confused. The girl part of her feels sorrow that she can not be as kind to him as she wants, but the Queen part knows that he has no place with her other than to serve her. At nights sometimes she deals with the longing of being touched and loved by another, and struggles with it. When Daario enters her service, she finds herself charmed and sidetracked at times by his appearance, showing that there is still somewhat of a teenager underneath the Queenly persona. It is a girl she hides deep inside herself. When she places a crown made for her on her head she claims that she still looks like only a little girl in a mirror.

As Daenerys is dealt with betrayals, to which she does not respond well to any wrongdoings, this little girl often must go into hiding. As the story progresses Daenerys holds her Queen persona, the khaleesi image and despite her warring feelings of hurt, of longing not to be alone, she banishes Ser Jorah of his betrayal even though part of his company gave her comfort. She recognizes his wants and seperates them from what is necessary to her journey and makes a final decision though it pains her. She responds to both his and Ser Barristan's betrayals with a fiery speech of both of them going to hell with the Usurper and if they don't leave her sight she'll show them what 'cooked traitor' looks like.

Yet she is not without mercy and second-chances if she sees the truth, a hard lesson she's learned for the betrayals and deceit dealt to her. When Ser Barristan proves his loyalty to her, she takes him as her knight because she sees where his true motives lie, and they coincide with hers. She has learned the hard way how to trust, and even that must be limited because she is the Last Targaryen, and though she cares for her people, they cannot be with her in the same way. She must be on a level apart, and at times it makes Dany quite lonely, though she keeps it to herself. She questions after those two betrayals if there is no one she is allowed to trust.

As her dragons grow, so does Daenerys grow. With a fiery temper, a strong sense of justice and passionate, if not emotional nature, Daenerys proves to be a very different sort of Queen. One wise beyond her years, one who has endured more pain than any should in her span of years and endured both physical pains and emotional scars. Yet through them, she grows, stronger, more regal, and more suited to a Queen. Daenerys knows she has power now, and she will no longer hide in the shadows. The dragon inside her has 'woken up'. Of course with that sort of passion and emotional side, it does tend to have consequences in regards to Dany's leadership. When in Astapor, Daenerys makes a rather impulsive decision of instead of paying for the slaves, she kills the slaver she was making the deal with, freeing the slaves instead and offering them the choice of joining her. What she isn't thinking of is how this will affect the balance of classes once she does so. Once leaving Astapor and Yunkai with the leadership structure she appointed, she finds that their peace is easily broken, and that she had not really thought through past the initial freeing of the slaves, though it was a noble action.

They say that in the Targaryen's their is a line between madness and greatness, where only the god's can claim to know which it will be in the member of the family. They 'flip a coin' it's said, and as for now, with Daenerys' ruthlessness, her kindness and passionate nature all wrapped into one, the coin could also very well be teetering on both sides. She has only just been told of this by Ser Barristan and has little knowledge of what her Father was even like, who was called the 'Mad King', Daenerys could veer in either direction.

She is aware of this fact, but there are more pressing things on her mind, that make it a distant knowledge. Things such as landing in Westeros to claim her stolen birthright, to claim what is rightfully hers.
ABILITIES:

[ Fire Immunity ] Granted that Daenerys could sit in a funeral pyre until the ashes were all that were left and be unharmed I think is a feat that speaks for itself. Even scalding hot bath water she considers a comfort rather than unpleasant, so I think in a sense, flames will continue to not harm her.

[ Leadership ]: While young, Daenerys is an accomplished and effective leader despite some of her strategical blunders. At such an age that's quite a feat, and when she puts her mind to it, people are moved with conviction by her words. She can be very charismatic and passionate, with an ability and reach others in a way that they can understand.

[ Multilingual: Daenerys is familiar with many tongues of Essos, and is fluent in Dothraki and her native tongue, High Valyrian. With effort, it would not be a challenge for her to learn another. ]

[Strength] While she appears to be 'only a young girl' Daenerys has a force of will to be reckoned with. After the horrors and tragedies that have shaped her life before she was even born, the girl has a high level tolerance to endure more.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:

 Release me.

[That's the first thing you hear, a female's voice hot with anger. However it is not what you first see. Dragons. .There are two the sizes of small dogs, green and cream-colored. The third is black as night with streaks of red in its scales and a bit larger. It rests on the shoulder of a slender, short woman. Or perhaps she is a girl. Her violet eyes are simmering with fury. ]

I know of magic. Nor am I a stranger to reasons why one would seek to bind me or keep me trapped in spell, rope or chain. What I am stranger to is this place, and how soon I can leave it. My city is without order, my eunuchs and khalasar, my knights and handmaidens without their Queen. Do you seek to bind me, city? As if I am a twittering bird in a cage to entertain you at your leisure? I am no bird.

[She smiles a grim sort of smile. ]

Who else have you trapped here? I would speak with them, if they are not enemies. To you who have also been bound, we will be freed, I swear it—and city, I will tell you of my magic. I am the blood of the dragon, and you will not keep me in a cage.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: Irri had ever been a useful handmaiden. In the early afternoon she had left a stack of books beside her Khaleesi's chambers, as much was to be done already in Mereen, it's new leader still needed time to herself. She had glanced at some of the books. Last one she had read had women in castles who were far too beautiful, and it had been strange going back to childish things, not looking over maps and strategies with Ser Barristan but instead reading fairytales. She was only sixteen and it was something she had to remind herself.

Yes, she dryly stated she was 'only a young girl' but how long had it been since she'd actually felt like one? She could only think of the old knight and the house with the red door. One book did catch her attentions, hardly intentionally. As her fingers skimmed over the covers of one, she felt a sharp prick of pain. Daenerys glanced down at the book cover, and marveled that it had actual thorns on it. It seems I have much to learn of you, my city if your books can pierce me, She thought wryly, as she glanced at her cut finger. Something compelled her, compelled her as strongly as she had been drawn into the pyre, towards her eggs, calling them to wake for her.

It seemed no different than the last story at a glance. Until she began to read. The book spoke of fire, of great and powerful things and a woman of great worth achieving them. She was beautiful, with knowledge, wisdom, compassion--all things a Queen should be. She was on some sort of adventure, a crusade of sorts, fighting against bears, lions, wolves--it sounded familiar--oh and there were dragons more than just her three fierce children, a flock of them taking to the sky, with riders with silver hair and violet eyes, calling to her to join them--to ride like Visenya with her fierce brothers. Dany was so engrossed in the tale that it was only when Rhaegal hissed from her shoulder, Drogon nipping at her from his place on her bed and Viserion beginning to beat his wings with distress did Daenerys look up.

And realize she was no longer in her chambers, no longer in anything that remotely looked like Mereen. She dropped the book then, took a breath, and tried her best to school her features into something close to calm. In that moment, a strange old man appeared, and Daenerys rose, Rhaegal taking to her left shoulder and Drogon to her right. Viserion flapped in circles around her head until she took him into her arms. The dragon was rising in Daenerys, hot and angry--indignant at what she was sure was some sort of dark magic.

"What is this place?" Daenerys asked slowly, her voice controlled, but there was a quiet, scalding fury beginning to build. How was she to rule if she were not in her city?
